If you have cover then you will be able to avail of:
- One FREE dental examination including oral cancer screening per calendar year
- A scale and polish for only €15
Failed appointments or a late cancellation on appointments will result in a charge of €50.00. This is to be paid prior to any new appointment being made.
What Dental Services are provided to people with Medical Cards?
Adults (over 16 years of age) who have a valid medical card can access a range of dental services and treatments under the Dental Treatment Service Scheme.
All medical card holders are entitled to specific dental treatments e.g., a dental examination, scale and polish, plus two fillings in each calendar year, extractions as necessary.
Some treatments such as the provision of root canal treatment on front teeth and dentures require the approval of the HSE before the dentist can proceed and in this case, the dentist applies directly to the HSE.
Additional treatments for example, teeth cleaning are available to those persons with specific medical conditions and again, your dentist will be able to advise you of your entitlement if this is the case. The HSE dental section may require written documentation outlining your medical condition and/or medications from your G.P. or other relevant medical person.
Medical card holders who have attended a different practice and used their free examination entitlement for that calendar year will need to pay a €40 fee for examination, dental charting and administration.
Any treatments outside of the scope of the Medical Card Scheme will be charged at the Private fee rate.
Failed appointments or a late cancellation on appointments will result in a charge of €50.00. This is to be paid prior to any new appointment being made.
